NorthStar exists because most luxury feels indistinguishable. The same handbag, the same ring, the same artisan-made everything, produced by the thousands and marketed as scarce. We trade in pieces that genuinely are.

How we find what we list

Every piece we publish has been pulled from an estate, a private collection, an artist's studio, or a small foundry. We travel. We wait. We pass on far more than we buy. Most of what we list is one-of-one — it sells once, and it is gone.

We work directly with the people who made or held a piece before us. There are no middle hands inflating the story, and no warehouse stockpiles waiting to be “marketed” into rarity. When we say a piece is rare, we mean it.

What gets in

We are looking for the same things you are. Provenance you can trace. Materials that age beautifully. Craft you can feel in the hand. A reason the piece exists at all that isn't “selling more of them this quarter.”

Authentication happens before a piece is ever shown. Where a recognized third-party authenticator exists for a category — GIA for stones, watch specialists for vintage timepieces, gallery archives for art — we route through them. Where no such body exists, we publish the full chain of custody we have.

What we leave out

Trend pieces. Mass-luxury. Anything that requires explanation before it becomes desirable. If the value isn't apparent the moment you see the piece, the piece does not belong here.

For the buyer who knows

We have found this approach attracts a specific kind of buyer — the one who knows what they want, recognizes it instantly, and is willing to wait for the right one. We are slow on purpose. The list stays small on purpose. If that is how you buy, you are in the right place.
