Will this piece fit?
A short guide to how our earrings size, gauge, and back — so you can order with confidence. Piece-specific measurements are always in the Specifications section on each product page.
Where each piece is meant to sit
- Lobe
- Standard first (or second) piercing. Fits every Northstar stud and hoop.
- Helix
- Outer upper cartilage. Works with our flat-back studs (Ara, Ara Bezel, Selene, Selene Pavé).
- Tragus
- The small fold in front of the ear canal. Flat-back studs only — no hoops.
- Conch
- The inner ear "cup." Fits flat-back studs; some hoops depending on your ear shape.
- Rook / Daith
- Inner cartilage folds. Case by case — DM us or email hello@rossispace.com with a photo of your setup and we'll help.
Gauge (post thickness)
Most Northstar studs are 18 gauge (1.0 mm), the industry standard for healed lobe and cartilage piercings. A 20g (0.8 mm) piercing may need to be stretched slightly, or you can request a 20g variant on eligible pieces — contact us before ordering.
Post length & back type
- Flat back (labret): our default on studs. Sits flush against the back of the ear — comfortable to sleep in and doesn't catch on hair.
- Standard length for lobes: 6mm post. For thicker cartilage or conch: 8mm post available on request.
- Threading: push-fit (no threading) on our flat-back studs — designed for easy self-installation once healed.
Metal & sensitivities
Northstar studs are solid 14k gold — hypoallergenic and safe for long-term wear (including in healing piercings, once cleared by your piercer). We do not use gold-plated or gold-filled metals on any earring piece.
